A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A bedside crib allows you to keep your baby close to you at night, without having to get out of bed. The fabric is breathable, which lets you easily see your baby, and they're incredibly easy to lower for those sleepy 3am feeds.
Some also double up as a moses basket as well.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your infant to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It can also help you bond with the new baby.
These cots have an end that can be lowered so that you can reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is especially useful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many are portable or foldable which means you can use them for trips and as an interim solution for infants that aren't yet ready to be able to transition into a full-sized crib.
Look for a crib with an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from stains. It is also advisable to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a soft toys.
If you're looking for a longer-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great way to extend their life span and making the transition more seamless. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be converted into the bassinet. Some can be used in conjunction with a standard adult bed or a high-rise bed. This is a great option for families who plan to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms at night. You should also think about how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. Many cribs have an incline which can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.

This makes it very solid and secure, allowing you to enjoy a great night's rest without worrying about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. She was delighted the fact that it didn't roll like other models, meaning it wasn't waking her at night when she was trying to comfort her baby during feedings. She also liked the fact that the side could be lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the baby out for feedings at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more stylish than the other cribs we've tested that are usually utilitarian. It is also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carrying case, so you can take it on holiday or even when you move house. You'll need a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for sleeping together. There are helpful step-by-step instructions and pictures to assist you in putting it together when you first open the box, making it a single-person job when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards, and moved through three different slide positions, to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner so that the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding lets air circulate through, allowing you to see your baby quickly. You can also store extra pajamas and supplies in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to space, and our mom testers thought it was the right size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is a great option for parents looking to co-sleep, but do not want to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers love the ease with which they can access their child in the Iora and that it has an optional reflux incline to help alleviate gas.
Our moms love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place the baby in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without blankets, toys, pillows etc. The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as other smaller bedside cribs however it is a good choice if you are looking for something lighter and easier to move around, think about one of the other options in our list.
